Spring Check Up Time

Spring is just around the corner!

With the warmer weather, more of us will be traveling out and about in the coming weeks. To be sure your car is ready for spring driving, start by doing these four simple maintenance checks.

1.) Tires – Check the manufacturer’s recommended air pressure and tread depth.
You can find the tire pressure recommendations in your owners manual or
on the placard inside your door jam. To test the tread depth, use the ol’ Lincoln
penny trick. Take a penny and place Lincoln’s head upside down into the tread.
If you can see Lincoln’s entire head, it is time for new tires.

2.) Oil – Follow your vehicles manufacture’s recommended oil change intervals.
Some vehicles can go up to 5000 miles between oil changes. Always replace
the oil filter with every oil change, and be sure to use the correct oil for your
vehicles needs. Is your vehicle a high mileage vehicle? Does it require a
synthetic oil?

3.) Battery and charging systems – Colder weather can take a toll on your battery
and charging system. A simple and free battery test performed by one of our
friendly and trained technicians can help you to determine if your battery needs
replacing or if there is an issue with your charging system. Stop by either shop
and we will be glad to test your system for you.

4.) Wiper blades and fluids – You have to be able to see where you are going.
Check your wipers to be sure that the winter, snow and ice have not torn your
blades, and that they are not leaving streaks. Check your washer fluid level and
also your washer fluid pump to be sure it is in good working order.

Performing these simple checks before any trip can save you frustration and time. Stop by Rock Hill Automotive before your next trip and have one of our ASE technicians do a pre-trip safety inspection for you.
